I guess this post over qualifies for the previous title of slow. I believe I have moved on to the Molasses Dept. Apparently I have had little to say, or at least say publicly. Time to remedy that!
So, I was feeling lazy and hungry today, but had found nothing appealing in my forages except an over ripe avocado. A sandwich? Indeed! I cut the mold off the bread (mm! meal number two!), toasted it, and then spread one side with whole seed mustard. Next, I mashed the avocado half onto the bread, slapped on some cut up sun dried tomatoes and some nice Danish pickle slices (slightly sweet, quite perky). A sprinkle or two, or five, of garlic powder, a dash of salt, a few grinds of black pepper, and a thin slather of catsup on the other slice of toast. The result? Delectable! Perfect for a lazy lunch or a drunken stupor snack.
I know, avocado sandwiches are not ground breaking. I had never considered, however, adding pickles before. I am so glad I said 'what the hell!' mmm. Also, catsup/ketchup. Sounds gross, but set off the flavors just fine.
Catsup? Yes, catsup. Catsup is magical. It saved me from many a scary slice of meatloaf back in the day and I had vowed to never say a word against it. Catsup adds a touch of sweet and a bit of tang that sometimes just sets things off perfectly. It also adds the necessary moisture to my longstanding vegan favorite in-a-pinch travelling snack, The Chip Sandwich. I admit, I used to be a catsup addict. I have since brought my usage into check, but have kept the love strong. Catsup, I salute you!
Any catsup fans out there? I used to be a Heinz fan and refused to use anything else. I later was turned off by the high-fructose corn syrup. I tried others, including a delightful banana catsup but Heinz was still tops. (At least that is what I remember. I haven't had it in a few years.)
All right. Off to find a beer, and think about that remaining avocado half!
